DESIGN INSPIRATION
In 2002 Austria issued this unusal, nonagonal (9-sided) coin to mark the 250th anniversary of the Vienna zoo - the world’s oldest zoo that is still in operation.
When handcrafted into a ring, the outer band of the ring features animals including an elephant, giraffe, owl, penguin and chimpanzee. The inner band bears the country's name - REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH. Due to the coin's 9 sides the ring has a slight crown-shape to it.
